It is morning when we dock in the historic city of Trondheim, which was founded over a thousand years ago. Nidaros Cathedral is the landmark of the city; it is Norway’s national shrine and one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe. After our visit here, the voyage continues out into the fjord, into an abundant archipelago and heads for northern Norway.

On this stretch, we mark crossing the Arctic Circle with a ceremony and continue onward into the Arctic regions. It means midnight sun in the summer, while winter days are merely a shade less dark than night-time and, possibly, Northern Lights in the evenings. Nature is powerful with northern Scandinavia’s largest glacier, the world’s strongest tidal current and encounters with the majestic sea eagle. In the evening, Lofoten’s fishing villages, steep mountains and Vikings await.

The voyage continues on through narrow fjords and past wild mountains to Tromsø, a city characterised by hunting and fishing, polar expeditions and courage. Now you have also reached the land of the Sami, Norway’s indigenous people. Meeting the Sami and their reindeer while hearing about the Sami culture is a unique experience you will remember.

Optional Excursions

As far north as you can get – by land and sea. For many, the visit to the North Cape is a high point and a goal for voyages along the Norwegian coast. Up here in the polar landscape, nature is at its harshest and most desolate, but between bare plains and rugged cliffs people cling on and reap nature’s bounty. You can also have a taste of the catch. How about some king crab?

You are now as far east on your voyage as you can go. The border with Russia is only a few kilometres away, and the road signs in Kirkenes are in Norwegian and Russian. You can go as far as the border on one of our excursions, or how about a visit to the Snow hotel where everything is made of ice and snow?

Visit a husky kennel and meet these happy animals. The owner of the dogyard will present the team of dogs, explain how they leave and how they are trained. It will be possible to spend time with the huskies and pet them. Afterwards, try a short dogsled tour to experience the thrill!

We have a list of the activities but in this moment it is hard to promise that all these will be available for the group: these activities follow a certain schedule that the hotel decides so not all of them are available on individual basis for that afternoon/evening. Though, if we have several people interested in the same activity we can ask the hotel to operate it only for us:

The hotel will be able to give me the schedule later in the year, but normally what I do in these cases is to suggest to offer 2 excursions max so that we get good numbers and we can do the excursion at any time

• Full board overnight in Glass igloo 1-2 pax at Arctic Snow Hotel
  • 20m² in size and suitable for 1-3 persons. Each glass igloo has its own toilet and shower as well as refrigerator, electric kettle, hairdryer. There are two twin beds as due to the motorization feature of the beds there can’t be a double bed.
    The glass-roofed igloos provide you the opportunity to sleep beneath the starry skies and the Northern Lights when they appear. Each igloo is extremely well heat insulated.

Depart hotel, and transfer to the workshop and home of two artisans Irene and Ari Kangasniemi. The Artisan Studio & Home visit: Explore with us the versatile use of reindeer antlers as a material used in handicrafts and the fascinating history of working antlers. We will demonstrate for you how antler is worked while telling you stories about reindeer and living in the vast expanses of Lapland. As we reveal to you some of our professional skills, you will have the opportunity to make your own souvenir of your visit. We will also tell you about other materials collected from Lapland’s nature for use in handicrafts.

The SECRET OF THE ANTLER is one of our most popular handicraft programs. At our handicraft workshop, you get the chance to make your own small object made from reindeer antler.

Following this, you will be taken to explore our genuine, Lappish home and way of life. The local cuisine will naturally become familiar as we drink a cup of tea with home made sweets while sitting around the table in our private home. The cosy warmth of the wood-fired baking oven takes away any chill the winter may bring.
