This was one of the best WA tours I have ever done as I saw so much and learnt so much about our food. This was my first Gems and it will not be my last as I have already booked for next Spring Gems – Sue

After two very successful Flavour Gems in 2022, we wanted to get our Summer Gems version out as soon as possible for 2023, so we can showcase all of our Trilogy of Gems. We have our Flavours & Gems of the Southern Forests (Summer), Truffles & Other Hidden Gems in the Southern Forests (Winter) and Spring Gems in the Southern Forests (hmmm….. Spring). In the same style as all our Gems, you will get to meet the locals who farm the land, the grape growers and winemakers who make some incredible wines (and Gins). You will hear their stories and understand their passion, you will visit their homes, walk their farms and enjoy their wonderful fresh produce, ultimately walking away with a deep understanding and admiration of this gorgeous and rich region of the world.

We have included many new experiences in our latest, Flavours & Gems of the Southern Forests and of course some exclusive and private dinners with the well-known local chefs. Get ready for an explosion of flavour with the fresh summer produce and world-class wines & gins. Get ready to feel connected to this awesome community in the Southern Forests where you will definitely want to return.

Thanks once again to Annette and Peter for organising and escorting us on this wonderful Gems tour. This Flavours & Gems of the Southern Forests tour name superbly describes our experiences – Denise

Dinner
Day 02 :
PEMBERTON

After breakfast at the hotel, we head off for a scenic drive and a unique farm visit for this Gems journey. Today a visit with Mikey and Allexa of Pemberton Honey to find out their story and learn a little about the local honey. The stories about the bees are fascinating.

A beautiful location for your lunch today at the Lakeside restaurant at Karri Valley Resort. After lunch a wine tasting nearby, at the stunning, reimaged Ampersand Estates (Formally Donnelly River Wines).

Ampersand Estates is also home to Australia’s only single harvest distillery, Rainfall Distillery, specialising in vodka and gin distilled in a single region and year using local ingredients found in the region so of course a Gin and Vodka tasting is highly recommended.

This afternoon you will transfer to your boat where Pete will take you down the pristine Donnelly River, which will include a sunset BBQ and Marron entrée. This is an incredibly special evening and a fabulous way to finish a wonderful first day.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We start our day today with a visit to Ladycroft Orchard to meet Bec and Shaun and check out one of the largest apple orchards in the state and the brand new variety of applies to WA and Australia, the Cosmic Crisp.

Next a visit to Kilrain corn and take home some freshly picked sweetcorn, you will not be able to eat corn from the big supermarkets ever again after sampling this fresh local corn.

Lunch at the Park Café today, before visiting a farm that specialises in heirloom vegetables (the older varieties that have not been modified for mass production) Here is your opportunity to sample fresh tomatoes that have maximum flavour and maximum nutrients, does anyone remember tomatoes with flavour?

These vegies will not look like your standard supermarket stuff but may well bring back some childhood memories of flavourful vege. Look out for guest star, Maddie.

Tonight’s private dinner at Silkwood Estate will begin with a short demo in the kitchen with Chef George using our fresh Heirloom tomatoes. A wine tasting here of some world class wines before sitting down to an incredible meal showcasing the local produce.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 04 :
MANJIMUP

This is the perfect time of year to check out the very trendy Finger limes. Their season is short so our timing is spot on here. A quick visit and then we are off to check out one of Manji’s most known vege, the potato. There are many varieties grown here so get ready to be surprised by what you learn about our number one dinner staple. Also, the number one ingredient for the base spirit at Rainfall Distillery.

Next we are off to visit Paul at Smash a Strawb before enjoying lunch at Manji’s favorite, Tall Timbers.

Sample some local wines on the way back to Pemberton and a short break at the hotel before glamming up for our private, 6 course, dining experience at Two Little Black Birds with Chef Joe Ditri with a menu featuring the flavours of the Southern Forests.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our tour finishes after breakfast and one last surprise Gem before you begin your return journey with your complimentary coach transfer back to Mandurah
