Member Story – Sue

When I lost my husband to cancer two years ago, I lost my best travelling companion – but not my will to travel.

I had always organised our travel overseas and researched and booked everything myself, but a couple of natural disasters that caused chaos for travellers not using a travel company, was starting to make me uneasy about doing this.

Then I heard about Travel With Me’s  Solo Traveller Club and realised it would be a great way to continue travelling the world now that I was on my own.

My first introduction was a meet up in Leederville where I heard about trips being planned for the year ahead, and met other like-minded solo travellers.

It was wonderful having someone else do all the planning and research and get such great discounts for a solo traveller who wanted her own room. Now all I had to do was select a trip, pay for it, pack my bag and I was off.

Because Travel with Me have been in the travel business for years, when I want to extend a holiday and perhaps add a bus tour they can arrange my whole trip from start to finish, but very often they will plan two separate trips that can be done one after the other and then if you still don’t want to go home, they can arrange another side trip.

My favourite trip to date, was in June this year, a Greek Island cruise on the Galileo, a classic old world designed Mega Yacht holding only 49 passengers. What a way to see the Greek islands, being able to pull into small less touristy islands as well as the well known Santorini and Mykonos.

We got to know all 49 fellow travellers so well and the wonderful staff spoilt us by having our favourite drink ready for us when we arrived back at the boat.

Swimming off the boat was a long held fear of mine, thanks to the movie JAWS, but I did it and loved the experience!

2020 is already shaping up to be another great year of travel with a Mekong cruise in March and a special birthday family trip to Italy in July, which will all be organised for me by Travel With Me.

I am living the retirement I always wished for, despite being on my own.
