Member Story – Hermie

I am so happy to have found Travel With Me – and especially the owner, Annette, who currently arranges brilliant short small group holidays in WA mainly for Solo travellers.

The first journey I did with Travel With Me and Annette as our guide, was to Margaret River (MR) with 12 other like-minded people (now friends). Yes, you can drive there on your own from Perth and once in MR perhaps go to the beaches, visit a winery with caution as you have to drive, find some food in Coles and take a stroll to Target! No, no, no, that is not a holiday that’s just a slight change of scene or routine. With Travel With Me we enjoy the experience and knowledge of Annette and local guides to really see and enjoy the MR region. The best restaurants for amazing gourmet food; small wineries where tasting are more than little sips, enjoyed with wonderful local produce platters of food; great forest walks; fabulous scenic drives; gin tasting with my new friends; excellent accommodation; heaps of fun; lots of laughter – a truly memorable holiday.

I enjoyed everything so much that I immediately booked another local short journey with Travel With Me, and again fortunate to have Annette as our guide, to WA’s Southern Forests. We were based in Pemberton and from there travelled out daily enjoying fantastic experiences. Must add here that there were no early morning starts, everything was at a smooth comfortable pace. The Southern Forest areas are known as the ‘food bowl’ of WA and the local produce is amazing. I tasted the best strawberries ever, and blueberries, and an apple picked fresh that very morning – what a taste difference. The forest scenery is beautiful, huge fat trees, very tall trees, waterfalls, bridges, etc. And then there’s the local people with fascinating stories to tell.

There were lots of adventures that were only available to our small group of 12 – private lunch and wine tasting with a local farmer and his family (a great afternoon of relaxing, eating, drinking wine, laughter); and the 4-wheel drive in the sand dunes (wow, fantastic views and heaps of fun); and the Donnelly River cruise with a sunset BBQ of marron at ‘a friend of a friend’s’ home on the riverbank (we were made so welcome).

How privileged we are to be able to enjoy travelling locally and how wonderful it is to truly appreciate and understand more of what’s happening in our own ‘backyard’ of WA. And how grateful I am to be part of the Travel With Me Solo Group.

I am looking so forward to my travels in 2021 which include: Kimberley in the Wet (February); Esperance and Albany Escape (March); Christmas and Cocos Islands (May) and The Ghan Expedition (October). So much more to experience and so many new friends to share these journeys with.
